On this week's Road Trip Close to Home, News 12 photojournalist Lori Golias takes us to Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford. The historic waterfront estate boasts spectacular gardens and perfect picnic areas.

The property originally belonged to Edward and Mary Stillman Harkness.

Mary Stillman was a relative of the founders of Mystic Seaport, and her husband Edward was involved with Standard Oil.

The couple lived in the residence from 1908 until 1950.
