Police are still
on the hunt for a man accused of vandalizing a series of synagogues in
Riverdale.
Police say the
latest attack happened Monday at the Riverdale Jewish Center on 3700
Independence Ave. An unknown man reportedly threw rocks at the facility’s
window around 1:30 a.m.
The incident marked the second time the religious facility has been vandalized in a matter of days.
It’s unclear if the same person in that attack is responsible for attacks on three other synagogues in the area, police say.
The suspect allegedly threw rocks at the windows of a string of synagogues blocks away from each other over the weekend.
Detectives say their investigation leads them to believe that it is one man that targeted the four synagogues.
News 12 is told the suspect also broke the windows of three parked cars along West 238 Street near Bellow Tower Park.
Guardian Angels were walking around the Riverdale neighborhood Monday as police continued searching for the suspect.
A member of the group is warning potential vandals to stay away.
“If you’re thinking of doing this, the Guardian Angels are out here,” they say. “We’re not going to call the cops, we’re going to intervene. Once we have you locked up, then we’ll call the cops to come get you.”
News 12 is told they plan to continue to patrol the area in hopes of stopping any other attacks.
Anyone who recognizes the man in the video is asked to call authorities.
