It looks like it's shaping up to be a season of shortages at local businesses - from Christmas trees to champagne to flowers.
Maria Cruz owns MC Floral Event, a flower shop in Morris Park, and says supply chain issues across the country, coupled with extreme weather in South America, is resulting in flower shortages.
She says she's being forced to buy roses at Valentine's Day prices to sell in her shop, and recommends swapping for less expensive flowers like carnations or daisies-- unless customers don't mind spending the big bucks.
Cruz recommends that shoppers be open to mixing bouquets this holiday season and pairing inexpensive and expensive flowers or opting instead for plants.
