‘I didn’t know it was going to happen.’ Man charged in fatal shooting of baby pleads not guilty

An 18-year-old Brooklyn man charged in the fatal shooting of 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.

Mathew Rodriguez, 18, is facing charges for attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, assault, hindering prosecution and tampering with a witness.

Rodriguez was seen being escorted out of the precinct earlier in the day. When asked what he had to say to the family, he said, "I didn't know it was going to happen."

Amuri Greene, 21, was arrested on April 1. He is facing charges for murder, attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and assault. Greene is expected to be in court on Wednesday.

Police say on April 1, Greene shot multiple rounds, striking the baby, killing her. Her 2-year-old brother was also grazed in the back. Police say Rodriguez drove the moped to escape.

Rodriguez is being held in protective custody until his next court appearance. He is expected to be back in court on June 10.
