Slain BX marine remembered at special street dedication
Dozens of people came out to Fordham to honor a Bronx hero Saturday.
A special street dedication in honor of Marine Cpl. Ramona Valdez was held at the corner of East Fordham Road and Grand Concourse.
Valdez joined the Marines when she was 17 to help her family out financially. She became the first female soldier to die during the Iraq War in June 2005.
The street where Valdez was first recruited is now named “Marine Corporal Ramona M. Valdez Square” in her memory.
