An all-female softball league is making its mark in the community by participating in a coat drive in Pelham Parkway.
Members of the G-PlaHers softball league placed boxes on the side of the field at Sid Jacobson Ball Fields as they practiced Sunday, collecting coats for the homeless.
All 60 girls donated jackets of their own while also prompting other members in the community to chip in as well.
The players also posted to social media about their efforts to gather coats as colder weather approaches. Some girls say they even brought flyers to local businesses to spread the word.
One of the coaches says they hope to give the donations to the Acacia Network, an organization that manages homeless shelters in the Bronx and around the city.
The girls say that while normally they are competing teams, this coat drive was a time to put rivalry aside and help those in need.
