There's a new development in the race for one of three full-scale downstate casino licenses in New York.

Soloviev CEO Michael Hershman just dropped the news to News 12's senior reporter Tara Rosenblum that they are teaming up with Banyan Tree as a hotel partner for a casino pitch near the United Nations in Manhattan.

This would be the first U.S. property for the hotel chain, known for luxury wellness getaways.

The name of the project is Freedom Plaza, and it would be housed on the largest undeveloped lot in Manhattan.

It would be located just south of the United Nations headquarters on First Avenue between 38th and 41st streets.
