Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced Sonja Smash to be the first-ever equity officer for the city.

Smash will be tasked with creating new administrative procedures and policies that promote diversity and inclusion.

This includes plans like recommendations around recruitment, hiring, retention, promotion, training and outreach.

She will also collaborate with the City of Yonkers' Health Equity Taskforce to improve access to better health.
