A source tells News 12 that extra security is being planned for Jimmy Kimmel's shows next week in Downtown Brooklyn.

This is the seventh time that Kimmel has brought his show across the country from California to Brooklyn, where he lived until he was 9 years old.

"It gets crazy, my son attended one with his girlfriend like four years ago," said Zoraida Cruz, who lives nearby.

Regine Roumain, who works in the area, says she was not in Brooklyn the last time Kimmel's show came, but she heard about it.

"I hear from others that it gets really intense - a lot of fun, long lines," she said.

This year could feel different after Kimmel made national headlines last week, when he was suspended following comments about Charlie Kirk's death and the president's response to it, before returning to the air on Tuesday.

"I felt so bad when (Kimmel) was crying," Cruz said, "Because you really felt that he showed sympathy for (Kirk's) wife."

"I think it's a great moment for free speech," said Evan Perry, who lives nearby.

While Kimmel has drawn plenty of negative reactions around the country, Roumain said she expects "people are going to come out in full force and in support of Jimmy," and anticipates it "with a strong Brooklyn flare."

Some did acknowledge the possibility of protests, saying the extra security is probably necessary.

"I'm hopeful that everything stays safe, and that people are respectful," Roumain said.

Until then, the preparations continue at the Howard Gilman Opera House. The job is being handled by local union workers from Brooklyn and Queens.

"It's a big amount of pride for us," said Jason Caccavo, the president of IATSE Number 4. "Some of us even get caught on camera doing moves and stuff during the show which is a lot of fun. My kids will be like 'hey there's dad' or whatever you know, it's a great thing all around."

The shows are set to be taped every day from Monday to Friday.
