Authorities say a 12-year-old boy was stabbed inside a school in Mt. Eden on Monday.
Police sources tell News 12 that an 11-year-old girl was taken into custody.
The attack happened inside P.S./I.S. 218 Rafael Hernandez Dual Language Magnet School just after 11 a.m. Officers discovered the boy with a stab wound to his left arm.
EMS took him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he is expected to recover.
Police sources say a kitchen knife was used in the attack.
The Department of Education says the school will provide counseling and mental health support to the school community and work closely with students, staff, and families to address the incident.
DOE issued the following statement:
"This act of violence is unacceptable and deeply concerning. Immediately following this incident, EMS and NYPD quickly arrived on site to ensure the safety and well-being of impacted students. We will be working closely with the school community to ensure all necessary supports are provided."
No official charges have been filed as of Monday afternoon.
