Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was in Brooklyn Monday to highlight how a multibillion-dollar infrastructure plan could improve our commute and bring more jobs to New York.
Pelosi was greeted with cheers by a group of carpenters, transit workers and union members who work in the infrastructure industry.
She spoke about the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act right near the Brooklyn Bridge.
She says it will bring $550 billion in new spending across the nation to fix the crumbling bridges, roads, tunnels, airports and mass transit systems.
Pelosi said the program also tackles the climate crisis, and that New York will get $11.6 billion for highways, $1.9 billion for bridge replacements and $9.8 billion for public transit across the state
"We are improving the quality of our infrastructure. The quality of our infrastructure is also about the safety of our infrastructure. So, this is also a safety issue,” said Pelosi.
