As accusations of misconduct and corruption continue to mount against the Mount Vernon Police Department, officials have brought in a special prosecutor to investigate the allegations.
Special prosecutor William Wagstaff says there are plans to get to the bottom of the chaos.
Wagstaff, appointed by Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, says his probe centers on two officers - one officer who was charged in June, and another police officer who may be charged in the future.
He did not specify the officers involved or their respective investigations.
Many Mount Vernon residents tell News 12 they've raised concerns and complaints against the police department for years, accusing officers of corruption and using excessive force.
News 12 reached out to the head of Mount Vernon's PBA Nicholas Mastrogiorgio, who declined to comment.
