A surgeon fighting the coronavirus pandemic at St. Barnabas Hospital has lost his life to the virus.
Dr. Ronald Verrier was a trauma surgeon and was on the front line caring for patients infected with COVID-19.
Dr. Verrier was born and raised in Haiti. He appeared on News 12 back in 2010, when he went back to his native country to provide medical aid.
His niece, Christina Pardo, followed in his footsteps in the health care field. "The first thing that I think of when I think of him is that he was just larger than life in every way,” said Pardo.
Dr. Verrier was a father of three children and a staple in the St. Barnabas Hospital system.
Many doctors and friends in the South Bronx community sent their condolences through social media and are doing what they can to remember the man they describe as an inspiration.
