Graduates from a school in Throgs Neck were invited back to celebrate its 95th anniversary on Saturday.
Alumni dating back to the Class of 1941 filled the gym of St. Benedict Catholic School to celebrate the historic milestone, sharing pictures from their time in class.
"It really is home for a lot of us," said alumni Ben Piacqudio. "A lot of the teachers that were here when I was here, so now are they not only my former teachers, they're also my coworkers. We're like one big happy family."
The 2003 graduate is now a teacher at his former school and he's not the only one. Principal Mary Scheer said many alumni of the kindergarten to eighth grade school have come back to be educators in the very same classrooms they once learned in.
"It's amazing to me. It's a real family feel," Scheer said. "To be able to welcome people home this time, Thanksgiving, and say, 'Come see where you were when you were young,' it's great."
St. Benedict Catholic School plans to continue the tradition. In another five years, it will mark their centennial year and the school plans to welcome back its alumni and students in the same fashion.
