A simple app is about change the way patients get more immediate care on their way to the hospital.

St. Vincent's Medical Center will become one of the first hospitals in the state to use the Twiage app.

Hartford HealthCare is the largest health care system in the Northeast to fully integrate the app.

"Now we're going to be able to really get really good detailed information straight to the emergency department almost instantaneously," said Michael Loiz, director of EMS Stratford.

The app allows local EMS to report symptoms like chest pain directly to doctors at the hospital while the patient is being transported.

"I can literally have a face to face conversation with the doctor or a nurse on the way to the hospital with the patient, that's amazing stuff," said Loiz.

EMS can even send pictures through the app that doctors can analyze at the hospital while they're waiting for the patient.

"They're able to send us information. We're able to ask questions to get more data and we can have back and forth that way," said Dr. Steven Valassis, of St. Vincent's Medical Center.

The new app goes online next week for St. Vincent's Medical Center and all of Hartford HealthCare.
