Staff and students protested at Brooklyn College Thursday to support adjunct faculty members and called for changes on their campus.
Protesters demanded the reinstatement of 52 adjunct faculty, who are losing their jobs and health insurance due to a lack of funding for CUNY schools.
They also called out what they say is anti-Black racism and injustice that has spread throughout the Brooklyn College campus.
In a statement, CUNY said in part, "Unfortunately, CUNY is not immune to the challenges and uncertainties engendered by the COVID-19 crisis, and in the absence of federal funding to support New York State and New York City through this crisis, our fiscal outlook is dim and uncertain. As a result, colleges are informing a large number of adjunct professors that their reappointment for the Fall 2020 semester cannot be guaranteed."
