The New York Attorney General’s Office on Tuesday announced an NYPD sergeant was indicted on a manslaughter charge.
Erik Duran, 37, was arraigned on charges for manslaughter, assault and criminally negligent homicide.
Duran’s indictment stems from a fatal incident in August 2023, when during an undercover drug bust in the Bronx he hurled a plastic cooler at a suspect who was fleeing officers on a motorcycle causing the man to crash and fall to his death.
Medical examiners determined the suspect died of blunt force trauma to the head.
Duran was suspended and later placed on modified duty after the incident. He faces up to 25 years in prison.
Duran is due back in court on April 18.
