A state appeals court has again ruled that the state must pay more into the education of Bronx and city school kids.
The Campaign for Fiscal Equity has taken the fight for more state education funding to court three times and judges have ruled in the group?s favor on each occasion. In the latest ruling, the state?s Supreme Court of Appeals directed the governor and Legislature to take action to provide education funding. The judge?s ruling also offered the state guidelines for the amount that should be provided.
Governor Pataki (R-NY) believes the state is already paying enough for city schools. He feels the latest ruling has made it clear that budgetary decisions should be made by the governor and Legislature.
The Campaign for Fiscal Equity is planning to continue its fight for more funding before the state issues its budget.
