A Bronx-based funeral home chain could have it's operating license pulled after numerous complaints.

A spokesperson for the state's Department of Health tells News 12 it has completed an investigation of the Ortiz Funeral Home and as a result, the department will seek fines and a potential license revocation. The department declined to comment on the investigation itself.

"It is needed for them to never be able to practice ever again. Whether it is the business, the people who work for them. Everyone who is involved," Nandra Coles tells News 12.

Coles claims the funeral home left her granddaughter almost recognizable after she tragically passed back in 2019.

Since 2018, the Department of Consumer Worker Protections says a total of 74 consumer complaints detail the alleged deceptive practices. The department filed a lawsuit in April. Now, hundreds of thousands of dollars will be given to grieving families as part of a settlement.

News 12 has previously reached out to the franchise. Crews visited one of their locations in-person Thursday and they declined to comment.
