The New York State Public Service Commission gave Con Edison the green light Wednesday for part of its Riverdale power line project.
The utility company plans to start work in October along Riverdale Avenue. Con Ed defended the work, saying electricity usage is up 20 percent compared to 10 years ago. The power line is expected to carry electricity to Westchester, the Bronx and Manhattan.
Before work begins, the utility company still needs to give the commission a report detailing the potential negative impact the project will have on the community.
Residents complain the construction will snarl traffic and reduce parking spots.
