Three men and a 16-year-old boy have been charged with murder in the shooting deaths of two men in the Meadowlands Racetrack parking lot Sunday night.
State police say the shooting occurred just before 9:30 p.m. A trooper who happened to be patrolling nearby heard the gunfire and saw three people running from the area. Police say that the men got into a SUV and sped off. The trooper followed the SUV and was soon notified by a dispatcher that the SUV had been reported stolen out of Tenafly.
The trooper tried to stop the SUV, but the driver fled onto Route 120 North before crashing into a cement divider, which disabled the vehicle.
Authorities say that during the investigation, officers found two men shot inside of an Acura sedan. A 22-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The 21-year-old driver was taken to the hospital, but later died. The names of the victims were not released.
Tariq Gathers, 24, 19-year-old Victor Geslicki, 19-year-old Nyshun Morris and an unidentified 16-year-old are now facing charges of murder, possession of a weapons and receiving stolen property charges.
Police say that they believe the four committed additional crimes in the area. Anyone who may have additional information is asked to contact the New Jersey State Police Major Crime North Unit at 609-947-6024.
