New York State Police have replaced the federal National Instant Criminal Background Check System for gun and ammunition buyers in state.
People who want buy guns and ammunition will be charged a fee to complete the background checks - $9 for guns and $2.50 for ammunition.
“This new order from Justice Sotomayor will ensure that the legislation's provisions related to stronger background checks for guns and ammunition will continue to move full speed ahead,” said Gov. Kathy Hochul.
On Tuesday, Hochul released a statement on the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to not halt the state's concealed carry improvement act's background check provision she signed last year.
