Stop & Shop donated $40,000 to local nonprofit Grassroots Grocery to help it with food distribution events at schools.
The organizations collaborate to deliver fresh produce once a month to over 60 schools in the Bronx.
The Hunts Point market supplies the produce that’s driven out to the schools.
Grassroots Grocery makes sure students get the nutrients they need to grow and thrive.
“It really is about making access to fresh produce. It’s the most important thing to help healthy students and allow them to really grow and succeed inside and outside the classroom,” said Daniel Wolk, the external communications manager at Stop & Shop.
The school’s principal tells News 12 that almost half the school’s population is food insecure. He says events like these put families at ease, so they can go home at night and feed their children a nutritious meal.
