Calmer cold takes us into the weekend, with a brief stretch of above-average weather Friday and Saturday. It was even colder with a few passing flurries on Thursday, with highs barely even reaching 30 degrees, but the calmer wind made it feel less frigid. Highs surge to 40 degrees with a much lighter wind making it feel noticeably warmer on Friday. That sets the stage for a weak storm for the second half of Saturday with rain on-and-off and highs approaching 50 degrees.
Showers are likely on-and-off between noon and 6 p.m. It will not be heavy rain, but roads will be slick through the evening. Colder weather begins to move back Sunday morning with another storm right on its heels.
Plowable snow is possible, as the most likely scenario is a stronger storm to directly hit the borough with a few inches of snow. The most likely snowfall at this point is 2 to 4 inches, but there is the potential for 4 to 8 inches, if not even a bullseye of up to 10. It is too soon to know those details as of Thursday evening but check back with the News 12 Storm Watch Team over the next couple of days for an updated look at the snow forecast.
A massive surge of extreme cold next week, and it will be the coldest weather all season. Actual air temperatures could dip into single digits Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Feels-like temperatures could also dip well below zero. Too soon to know those specifics but do know the threat is there for dangerous and life-threatening extreme cold. At the tail end of the cold shot, coming from Siberia.
