Brooklyn residents prepared for tonight's storm by purchasing necessary materials for whatever the weather may bring. 

"And it runs into the basement, so the sandbags will keep that from happening," said Lawrence Du Bois, whose Canarsie regularly floods during rainstorms. 

One Stop Hardware II owner Freddy Khamis said it's important to be prepared, especially if you live in a flood zone area. 

"Bags of sand is a good flood barrier, they absorb a lot of water, so it works best. We have pumps in case you do get flooded," said Khamis.

Con Edison has more than 700 workers in the field ready to assist customers. The utility reminded New Yorkers to stay away from downed wires.
