SHOWERS OVERNIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY

Scattered light rain showers are around Long Island overnight. Plan on a wet start to the day on Wednesday with on-and-off light to moderate rain showers. This shouldn't slow you down much on Wednesday morning, but just be prepared for a wet start to the day. The cold air from the past couple of nights and mornings is also gone, but it will still feel chilly with overnight lows around the lower 40s for most of Long Island.

Scattered mostly light periods of rain will persist through Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon looks drier, but a passing shower will still be possible. Highs on Wednesday will be in the lower to middle 50s.

LYRID METEOR SHOWER

Unfortunately, you will not be able to see this for the rest of the overnight into Wednesday morning timeframe, but this meteor shower peaks on Wednesday morning. It is mostly cloudy with showers around Long Island through.

BRIEFLY WARMER LATE-WEEK

There are no widespread summer-like temperatures on the way, but it does get a bit warmer for the end of the week. Thursday will be the best weather day over the next 10 days with sunshine and highs in the middle 60s to lower 70s. Friday will still get to around 60 degrees, but it will be cooler than Thursday. It cools down into the 50s for the weekend through most of next week. The normal average high temperature this time of year on Long Island is around 61 degrees.
