The Williamsburg community is mourning after losing two of its own in the deadly shooting in New Jersey Tuesday.
Mindel Ferencz, 32, and Moshe Deutsch, 24, both from Williamsburg, were among the six people killed. Staff from the organization Chai Lifeline says Deutsch was a loving person who devoted a lot of time volunteering in the community.
"This is something that really shakes us to our core. This is - this hits home, and nobody ever imagined that it would happen so close to home, and it was shocking. We were all horrified," said Chief Marketing Officer Matt Yaniv.
According to the United Jewish Organization, Ferencz was a nurturing mother of five children who relocated to New Jersey and helped her husband run one of the first kosher grocery stores in the area.
Community members are calling the situation unfortunate. "Children bury parents. Parents should never bury children, and this is going to happen today. Young children, mothers of children, it is just - you can't find the words to calm a situation like this down to anybody," said community leader Isaac Abraham.
Jewish leaders say the community is on high alert following the attacks.
