A fire restoration company is helping some New Jersey restaurants sanitize as they prepare for outdoor dining to return.

Restaurants across New Jersey have been closed for three months because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They have only been able to offer takeout and delivery service. But beginning June 15, they can also offer outdoor seating.

Johnny’s Café and Lounge owner Johnny Liccio says that the pandemic is financially killing the restaurant business. He says that this is worse than what Superstorm Sandy did to the industry.

“We were up and running in a week,” Liccio says about the 2012 storm that devastated much of the Jersey Shore.

But as Liccio prepares for outdoor dining, he is also getting inside ready as well, which is where National Restoration comes in. The restoration company is offering free cleanings to some restaurants.

“It builds a vortex out of velocity, so that creates a wet fog or a misting process and it clings to everything, virtually,” says National Restoration director of sales Anthony Larose.” It works up to 30 days and kills on contact or anything that’s airborne immediately is killed.”

National Restoration will also be sanitizing houses of worship and day cares during the month of June, which were also closed because of the pandemic.

“We’re just trying to assist in that matter and give them a little boost, because without income for three to four months, it’s stressful for the owners,” says Larose.

For owners like Liccio, the free cleaning is a blessing.

“It means the world to us because, 1. I don’t know if we could afford it, and 2. It’s going to make our patrons feel more comfortable coming in,” he says.

National Restoration plans to sanitize 30 restaurants, day cares and houses of worship this month, all for free.
