Many street vendors on Fordham Road say it's been difficult to work due to an uptick in summonses.
News 12 was told the Department of Sanitation is cracking down on any vendor without a permit and issuing them a summons.
Other vendors say it's nearly impossible to get a permit due to the outdated system.
According to the Street Vendor Project, the group says these vendors are trying to make a honest living.
"Any food vendor who wants to go to the city and apply for the required citywide food vending permit, they will not be allowed to apply because there's a massive waiting list that only those that are called off that waitlist are able to apply for the permit," says Mohamed Attia, managing director of the Street Vendor Project.
DSNY says even though street vending is vital for the community, unregulated vending in the area has caused issues for businesses and residents.
News 12 was told DSNY posted over 100 warning signs in the area.
DSNY adds that it encourages vendors to comply with its rules.
