Music icons The Isley Brothers were honored in Bergen County on Thursday where members of the family lived during the early years of performing.
The Isley Brothers are funk, R&B and Rock & Roll icons known for hits such as "Shout,” "It's Your Thing" and "Between the Sheets." Ronald and Ernie Isley are the current members of the group that they started with their siblings.
Van Arsdale Place in Teaneck was renamed Isley Brothers Way in honor of the group. A major celebration took place to commemorate the renaming.
“It’s almost like a movie, really. Because I can remember, you know, vivid memories of Englewood and Teaneck” said Ernie Isley.
The community turned out to celebrate their music. Some who knew the Isleys when they called this Teaneck neighborhood home in the 1960s shared memories. Someone even brought a record by the T-Neck label that the Isley Brothers founded while living there.
The brothers say that they hope that the street renaming will remind future generations of the musical greatness that comes from New Jersey.
A street in Englewood was also renamed after The Isley Brothers on Thursday, as members of the family once lived there as well.
