Older adults living at the New Jewish Center University Avenue Assisted Living facility received a special delivery ahead of Mother's Day.
Kreetana Bhusal, a Fordham University student, delivered nearly two dozen colorful bouquets to mothers who would have been alone for Mother's Day.
Bhusal is a senior majoring in pre-med. In between studying for final exams, Bhusal went to a local florist to pick up bouquets to deliver to women who live at the nearby assisted living facility.
The student works as a "joygiver" for Careyaya, where she provides homecare support for older adults.
"Working with the older adult population, has been pretty fulfilling, some cases I've had, they were most of the time lonely, or without their spouse so I would fill in for them," said Bhusal.
Armed with bouquets, Bhusal went door to door on Wednesday afternoon to hand deliver flowers to each resident.
The surprise brought Gloria Aldea to tears.
"This means a lot to me, because my family hasn't come to see me, but I'm glad they are going to come for Mother's Day," said Gloria Aldea, who lives at the University Avenue Assisted Living Facility.
Bhusal says the goal is to ensure those moms who may be missing their own families would feel a little less lonely on Mother's Day.
