High school students teamed up with biologists and went looking for crawfish, snapping turtles and hundreds of other species on Sunday morning in Van Cortlandt Park.
Over 100 students, mostly from Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy, participated in the first ever BioBlitz, an event created to promote science education and environmentalism.
Organizers say knowing exactly what's in the park is important in preserving it, and that the activity made for a fun day for kids.
The information collected will be sent to the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy to help preserve plants and wildlife.
