Some Bronx students chose to spend their spring break at school.
Alexis Sherman, an eighth-grader at the Bronx Academy of Promise, has spent the last three days of her spring break in the classroom. She is getting extra help in math to prepare for the upcoming state exams, which start on Tuesday.
Sherman is one of 150 students from third to eighth grade spending each day of their break in math or English lessons.
Officials at the Bronx Academy of Promise say the state exams are a big part of moving on to the next grade and a way to measure the progress of the school as a whole.
Teachers and some of the younger students will perform songs and dances at a pep rally Monday to remind students taking the state exams to believe in themselves.
