The Suffolk County Police Department welcomed 70 new recruits Tuesday during a ceremony in Brentwood.
It's the 185th class of recruits to be sworn into the department.
About 43% of the recruits have previous law enforcement experience and seven of them are fluent in Spanish. The class is part of the largest hiring of police officers during a 12-month period in county history.
The recruits will now begin their 31-week training at the Suffolk Police Academy in Brentwood.
