Two Suffolk Police officers are being hailed as heroes after they helped resuscitate a West Islip man who had collapsed while shoveling.
Officers Terence Slane and Tristen David rushed to a home on Hyman Avenue after a neighbor called saying the 71-year-old man collapsed while using a snowblower.
The officers found the man without a pulse and began CPR. Molloy College student Hailey Hickey was also on the scene.
“I did a couple rounds of CPR on him and he was gasping for air and I got a slight pulse back,” she said. “It was really scary and I just kept on hoping the ambulance would get there as quick as possible but the roads were so bad."
The man is recovering in the hospital. He's in critical, but stable condition.
