'Summer of SALT': NJ congressional representatives launch effort to repeal SALT deduction cap

New Jersey’s representatives in Congress have launched an effort to try to repeal the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap.
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was passed in 2017 under the Trump administration. The act caps deductions at $10,000 per year. There weren’t any caps before this law was put into place.
"We are going to highlight how this negatively impacts [New Jersey], including teachers, firefighters, health care workers and seniors. And how it is harder for us to make the investments that our communities need,” says Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherril.
The “Summer of SALT” campaign will continue until the end of the summer season.
