Storm Watch Team Meteorologist Darryl Green says New York City will see quiet weather for the workweek and possible showers for the weekend. Hurricane Ian is making landfall this afternoon as a major Category 4 hurricane. The western coast of Florida is expecting a 12- to 18-foot storm surge.
NEW: Destructive winds and devastating storm surge will rip across the western coast of Florida today. Ian is expected to slowly move across Central Florida tomorrow morning. Catastrophic damage is expected over the next 48-72 hours for the western, central and northeastern parts of Florida. The storm will be weakening to a tropical storm by Friday as it moves up toward Georgia and South Carolina. Storm surge and tropical storm warnings are in effect for coastal Georgia and South Carolina. As it tracks northeast, the remnants of Ian could bring showers Saturday afternoon into Sunday. Heavy rain or gusty winds are not expected at this time.
