A pedestrian was killed in an East Patchogue hit-and-run that closed eastbound Sunrise Highway for hours Thursday.
Police say an adult male was on the entrance ramp to eastbound Sunrise Highway, east of Hospital Road, when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene at 6 a.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed for hours between exits 53 and 54, between Route 112 and Hospital Road. It has since reopened.
In Chopper 12 video, eastbound delays could be seen stretching past Nicolls Road, with all eastbound traffic being detoured onto Route 112.
The westbound side of Sunrise Highway never closed, but there were delays.
