SUNY Maritime cadets return home after months at sea
Close to 500 students from SUNY Maritime college returned home after spending more than three months at sea.
The training ship sailed to ports in New York, Louisiana, South Carolina, Maryland and Iceland.
The goal is to provide the cadets with hands-on experience outside the classoom.
"It's a lot of work. I'm glad to be back with my family," said cadet Seth Champlin.
Engineering cadets get to learn troubleshooting skills and gain confidence in themselves and their abilities.
Their parents could not be more proud.
"It was a long 100 days. We're very happy they back home," said parent Mary Kay Champlin.
