SUNY Maritime College hosted middle school students on Saturday
for “NYC Student Day: Youth Power and Offshore Wind” to teach students how to generate electricity through wind farms
in the ocean.
Students took items that you can find around your home like
paper, electrical tape, and a towel rod and used them to create energy reaching
up to 14 megavolts.
The inaugural event was a partnership between SUNY Maritime College,
Horizons New York City and offshore wind developer Attentive Energy. Organizers
say they hope student interest will translate into future jobs in the green energy
field.
