SUNY Maritime College's training ship returned to the Bronx Tuesday morning after assisting federal aid workers in hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico.
Sixty crew members aboard the Empire State VI set sail in September after Hurricane Maria wreaked havoc on the island territory. The ship housed more than 5,000 FEMA workers and was used to serve 9,000 meals to first responders.
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration activated the vessel for a FEMA mission to support relief efforts.
The ship was also used to assist first responders and aid workers during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
