Survivors, veterans gather for 18th annual Holocaust Remembrance Day Memorial in Sheepshead Bay
Sunday marked the 18th annual Holocaust Remembrance Day Memorial in Sheepshead Bay.
Community members and elected officials came out to honor the millions of Jewish people killed in the Holocaust.
Poster boards at the scene show pictures of previous years where Holocaust survivors and their family came together to remember their loved ones.
World War II veterans gathered alongside Holocaust survivors and their families.
The 2021 theme for the memorial is “No one is forgetting—nothing is forgotten.”
It was dedicated to the six million Jewish people who died in the fire of Shoah.
Organizers say their memory lives on.
Butterflies were also released into the Sheepshead Bay Holocaust Memorial Park in remembrance of the children lost.
Organizers say they hope the lesson is that those in the community can learn from the atrocities of the Holocaust and stop hate, racism and antisemitism.
