A driver is facing charges after an SUV crashed into a building and caught fire overnight in River Edge.

Johan Valencia-Restrepo, of New Milford, was hospitalized after the crash but is now in police custody.

Prosecutors say he is charged with driving while intoxicated and failed to turn when approaching an intersection.

The crash happened around 2:45 a.m. on Kinderkamack Road, where a white Chevy Equinox struck the front of Nigito Realty Co.

Video shows flames coming from the vehicle after impact.

Apartments are located above the business, and residents were helped out of the building using a fire escape with assistance from firefighters.

Town officials say one person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, though that has not been officially confirmed.

A section of Kinderkamack Road was shut down but reopened by 7 a.m.

Authorities say they are continuing to gather information.
