A makeshift memorial is remembering a 17-year-old girl fatally shot over the weekend in a home in Edison.

Middlesex County prosecutors say police received a 911 call reporting a shooting on Grove Avenue around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities say the suspect, a 17-year-old boy from Plainfield, was taken into custody at the scene and charged with acts of juvenile delinquency. Prosecutors say he would be facing manslaughter and weapons charges if he were an adult.

The victim and the suspect have not yet been named by authorities, only saying that the two knew each other. Friends say the 17-year-old girl’s name was Justice.

Details surrounding how the shooting unfolded have not yet been released.

"Just a beautiful soul, she loved everybody," said Leila Martinez. "Anytime you need her, she always had your back.”

"Every time I was around her, she had a smile on her face, it was always genuine energy," said another friend.
