Police say a 19-year-old was killed during a shooting in Belmont.

Lamar Simmons, of the Bronx, was shot in the chest near East 183rd Street and Hughes Avenue, blocks away from his home, just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

EMS took Simmons to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died, according to authorities.

His family said he was the youngest, and that their hearts were broken.

"Me and my mother just now wants to be let into the emergency room. I just can't believe he's gone," said a family member.

The neighborhood is an area filled with businesses, a day care, restaurants and residential homes.

Neighbors say the violence is making it hard for children here to just be kids.

"It's a lot of kids in this neighborhood, and they can't go outside. They can't go to the park. They can have fun. You can't do the things I did growing up," said one neighbor.

Police are searching for at least three men who they say are responsible for the shooting.

One man was last seen wearing a blue hoodie with white lettering, a black jacket and white sneakers.

Authorities say the second man was observed in a red sweater, black jacket and white sneakers.

The third was dressed in a black jacket, gray sneakers and a black mask.
