A deadly rush-hour shooting left one teenager dead and two others injured Wednesday evening, sparking chaos in a busy stretch of the Bronx filled with commuters, students and local businesses.
Police have identified the 16-year-old boy who died as Christopher Redding.
Dozens of officers rushed to the corner of West 238th Street and Broadway, where eyewitness video shows first responders performing chest compressions on the teen, who had been shot in the back. Another teenager was seen sitting nearby with a gunshot wound to the leg. Just feet away, a 13-year-old girl was bleeding from her leg after also being struck.
All three teens were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital. Police say the 16-year-old later died. The two other teens are expected to survive.
Sources tell News 12 the shooting appears to be gang-related and may have started after an argument broke out down the block at a local fast-food restaurant. Neighbors told News 12 they heard several gunshots.
Redding was described as a football player who was calm and good. His family said they were heartbroken, and they wanted everyone involved to be held accountable.
"These kids don't have God in their life. That's why they do the things they do, no repercussions, no conscience, " said the teen's father, Brian Corley.
Police are now searching for three males and one female in connection with the shooting.
