An American-Islamic organization is calling on the NYPD to investigate a possible hate crime after a teenage girl says she was assaulted and harassed in the Bronx.

The 17-year-old girl says she was waiting for a bus when a group of teenagers began throwing bottles at her. The girl says when she asked the group to stop, one person threw a Mountain Dew bottle full of urine and yelled hateful things at her.

The girl posted her account of the incident on TikTok and it has since gone viral. She says that the teens called her bin Laden and yelled "Allah Akbar."

The New York chapter of the Council of American-Islamic Relations says that the girl called police and the officers told her there was nothing they could do.

The organization is now calling on police to investigate the incident. It is also calling on the Commission of Human Rights to increase awareness on Islamophobia.

News 12 reached out to the NYPD about the incident for comment and was told that there is "no complaint report on file for the name provided."
