Teenage girl struck by truck leaving Cardinal Spellman HS in critical condition

A teenage girl is in critical condition after being struck by a truck as she was leaving school in Edenwald.
The 14-year-old was struck outside of Cardinal Spellman High School shortly after 6 p.m., police say. She was taken to Jacobi Hospital where she is in critical condition, suffering from serious head trauma.
The truck driver, Yeison Rivera-Jerez, remained on scene, police say.
Rivera-Jerez was arrested and charged with driving without a license and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
“The entire Spellman community is praying for a quick and speedy recovery for this young lady,” a spokesperson for Cardinal Spellman said in a statement. “She is receiving excellent care from her doctors at the hospital.”
