Some tenants on Wallace Avenue in Pelham Parkway fear they may be evicted or forced to get rid of their dogs.
Management of the building recently sent out a letter that dogs aren?t allowed. However, many tenants claim that rule was not in their lease. According to the landlord, most leases do say pets are forbidden. The landlord claims the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) threatened to ticket management if the letters weren?t sent out.
Many tenants say if management tries to evict them if they keep their dogs, they plan to find lawyers and take the case to court. A Bronx lawmaker says under current law, if a tenant can prove they?ve had a dog for more than 90 days, regardless of what a lease states, the eviction may be overturned.
