Cornelia and Jose are living with a damaged ceiling in their Fordham apartment at 108 Field Pl. for about five years – conditions the couple say are “terrifying.”

"We are not at peace," said Jose.

The married couple said the leak in the bathroom ceiling has been an ongoing issue with water and sometimes bugs creeping down from the exposed area. The kitchen ceiling came down as Cornelia was cooking a year ago.

"If I didn’t move quickly, I feel like it would have killed me because I jumped back but the rubble and debris fell on top of me," she said.

The couple said they are not happy with the landlords delayed responses and temporary fixes. News 12 reached out to the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development and are waiting for a response.
